I think that's another thing that has just changed out of all recognition. If you want a book today, odds are you can get it instantly through Amazon or if not, you can at least, somehow, usually get even long out of print stuff from there. Its pretty unusual to want to read a book but be actually unable to do so because none of the libraries have a copy. But that was completely normal when I was growing up. Access to information is just taken for granted now. Which I think is fundamentally a great thing.Edithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054536553120344635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7881402584568285627.post-60138799870963669092013-04-02T06:54:48.814-07:002013-04-02T06:54:48.814-07:00Thanks Simon. Having grown up before the internet was even a twinkle, I really appreciate being able to do this! Still seems like magic!Edithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054536553120344635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7881402584568285627.post-70230939210632076902013-04-02T06:42:46.002-07:002013-04-02T06:42:46.002-07:00'Please feel free to delete this if there'...'Please feel free to delete this if there's a reason not to point this out, I don't know a thing about publishing!'

Edith, the first thing I do when I see a book I like the look of is to go to amazon and see how cheap I can get it there! I have an idea everybody does this. I'm glad you enjoy my stuff and thanks for letting me know it.
Simon Webbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10865289865412656573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7881402584568285627.post-32555369994921318352013-04-02T06:38:24.963-07:002013-04-02T06:38:24.963-07:00Simon, just wanted to say two things, quickly. Really really enjoyed them and would recommend to anyone (and have, in fact). My dad, a London history buff and a Londoner going back as far as records exist really enjoyed them also. They are scholarly enough to be interesting without being inaccessible to non-historians. If anyone is hesitating over buying the other books you have written, then don't, because based on those two I'll certainly be reading more!

Second, would it be ok to point out that the books you are recommending from the historypress are also available on Amazon, some as kindle downloads? Unless its in any way an issue for you, that's how I'm personally planning to buy them. Please feel free to delete this if there's a reason not to point this out, I don't know a thing about publishing!

Thanks again for sharing these fascinating books.Edithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054536553120344635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7881402584568285627.post-78414654018168550982013-04-01T08:30:33.071-07:002013-04-01T08:30:33.071-07:00The book does sound fantastic but sadly, having se...The book does sound fantastic but sadly, having seen so many factual inaccuracies written by Simon Webb on this blog, I feel that I would be ill advised to buy it, if I was looking for a truthful account of the 1960s.
