The "guidelines" currently in circulation have not been released by Graham Stuart MP and are not the version he is currently working on. Graham will, in due course, be putting suggestions for guidance up in a public place where all home educators will be invited to have their input.
Simon, you said "...awarded to the Sauer Consultancy under a nod and a wink from the chair of a Commons select committee"
Now you are just making things up. I never said that this is what happened, neither did I name the Sauer Consultancy. You make the assumption that an official tender was given to the Sauer Consultancy - that is your assumption based on gossip. In fact, people were led to believe that this whole thing was commissioned by government - I don't believe it was. I believe from what I was by the author, that the author had a bright idea, ran it up the flag pole, and waited to see who would salute it - as the saying goes.
Why does everyone assume that this was done in an official capacity? My theory is that GS though if it flew with home educators then he could put it out for consultation and if not, he could ditch it. Why not have someone else do the hard yards for you - especially if you base your agreement to the re-write on the assumption that at least a home educator would get it right.
While I have emails and documents to back up the facts, where I say it is my opinion, you should take it as that. If you are going to have your spies feed you information, tell them to make it accurate.
I will not allow you to fabricate a story to suit your own ends Simon. This is not about your personal vendetta, or anyone else's - this is about my and others unhappiness with the document that I edited/proofread. If people have genuine questions I am happy to answer them - you can find me on HE-UK.
'Why does everyone assume that this was done in an official capacity? '
Possibly because Graham Stuart has bandied around Nick Gibb's name in connection with this project. The fact that in the section in the guidelines on examinations, Alison Sauer blithely suggests that the Department for Education should fill in those bits also leads one to suppose that the DfE is involved.
'You make the assumption that an official tender was given to the Sauer Consultancy '
I have in the past pointed out that this is either an official initiative or it is a private project of Graham Start and Alison Sauer's. If it was a private project, Alison Sauer would hardly be putting doen that the DfE could fill in certain parts. If you know what the terms of reference were, then why not tell us?
'This is not about your personal vendetta, or anyone else's - this is about my and others unhappiness with the document that I edited/proofread.'
I have no personal vendetta. I have had some dealings with Alison Sauer, but barely know her. When something of this sort is launched, then I have as much interest in the case as anybody else. I do not like the hole and corner way that this has been conducted.
'Now you are just making things up. I never said that this is what happened, neither did I name the Sauer Consultancy. '
I do not actually know who you are or what you have or have not named. You seem to be saying that Alison Sauer was involved in writing these guidelines as an individual and the fact that she owns company which advises local authorities about the law surrounding home education was nothing to do with her producing this document? Is this what you meant to say? Since you apparently know more about this matter than most, could you tell us the circumstances under which the Chair of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee became mixed up with this? Simon.

ReplyDeleteSo, who wrote the proposed guidelines which GS is working on?
