A few days ago I posted details of a Serious Case Review from Barking and Dagenham which involved the death of a home educated child. Here is one from Wales, which apparently has some bearing on the decision of the Welsh Assembly to look at the compulsory registration of home educated children:

Same old horse crap load of so called experts involved but all of them always mess it up police where called that is a major sign something is not right! there where loads of signs of things wrong yet there fail yet again to take common sense action and then want to blame home education. it would have made no difference if family had of been registered for home education as the so called experts could not organizer a bun fight in a bakery!
ReplyDeleteAnd those parents were unfit to raise a child and incapable of providing an education.
DeleteI'm not sure what this has got to do with home education. Apart from the fact that SS are using it as an excuse again.
ReplyDeleteWhat difference do you think compulsory registration would have made? Sion was already known to the local authority HE department and Social Services.
They claimed to be home educating the child...as did Eunice Spry and Angela Gordon.
DeleteThey may also have been vegetarians. So?
DeleteThe point is that home education is, once again, part of the picture when a child has died. Given the small number of home educated children in the country I feel that I should not be reading yet another report where a home educated child is involved in such a tragedy.

ReplyDeleteSorry. Phone went a bit crazy there.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if a serious case review ever follows anything less than death? For eg, if a child has been damaged/injured but not killed? I'm just wondering if one will follow a case I know about in my town.

ReplyDeleteAll of these families were known to social services without the need for registration. Spry and Gordon both had home visits from LA inspectors. What's your point?
