Apropos of the discussions on this topic which have recently been taking place here, I thought readers might be interested in this news item from Stoke-on-Trent. Out of the 74 home educated children known to the local authority, 11 have statements. This is five or six times the percentage in the general school population.

12 of them are of Pakistani origin. Is that significant to you as well? Or is it only parents of the disabled or those with SEN that come onto your suspicion radar?
ReplyDeleteI don't think either are significant because we've already established that across the LA's the proportion of home educated children with SSEN is 5% If an area has a higher proportion then I would suggest that they should look at the quality and amount of their provision for children with special needs because it looks to me as if people have gone through the system to get extra support, then voted with their feet after it didn't work out as they'd hoped.

ReplyDeleteYes, I found that interesting. I mean to look at the whole question of the ethnicity of British home educators in the future and so didn't mention it today..
