How the introduction of registration and monitoring have not harmed a home education movement

This piece from Ireland is interesting, mainly because the parents seem just to be getting on with educating their children, rather than agitating against new laws. Perhaps there is a lesson here for parents in this country:

Maybe because they are not currently under threat of new laws? The Home Education Network (HEN), began largely because of the threat of proposed new legislation at the time and they campaigned strongly for changes. Those pesky home educators, never happy to go with the flow and do as they are told...

  2. The weird thing about this article is how it discusses phonics - explaining it as if it is a strange reading method used only by home educators! There are even scare quotes around thw word 'phonics!'

"Recently, her son Nestor wanted to learn how to read. She teaches him using the computer programme Word Shark and a “phonics” package called Letterland, which associates letters with the sounds they represent.!

  3. Yet another distorted mis-representation from Webb, more that two thirds are not even known to the authorities rather than his demented interpretation "to be getting on with educating their children, rather than agitating against new laws"
